Kate
 by Christina
Kate is an energetic girl from The Good Master and The Singing Tree. She changes a lot as the time goes by, but she sticks to her mischievous ways.  She can never resist a challenge or a chance to prove a person wrong. Her story first started when she got the measles. After recovering, her father decided that some fresh air would do her good, so he sent her to his brother’s house to live with them for the summer. (Secretly, he had hoped that his brother would be able to tame the wild imp that was his daughter.) It turned out that Kate’s cousin, Jancsi, was at the receiving end of the first act that showed Kate’s ability to turn a simple horse into a wild beast with her terrifying scream, soon to be a famous act of hers.  Her next act was to show her ability to climb by going up into the rafter, and then showed her appetite by eating the sausages up in the rafters. That’s how the first day of Kate’s visit started.  But as time went by, she began to do a few of the tasks around the farm, and soon, she found herself helping with all the farm chores (except for anything to do with the pigs.) and learning to ride a horse. In The Good Master, Kate changed from a small, scrawny imp to a strong, sturdy, headstrong imp. But in The Singing Tree, the strong, sturdy imp realized she needed to stop her tomboyish acts and grow up. She stayed as stubborn as ever and always kept had a bit of an imp in her, but when her days as a little girl passed, she became a grownup.  In two books, Kate changed from a scrawny imp who always managed to get her way to a very (almost) respectable young lady.
