CVS Tells Workers to Reveal Body Facts-Or Pay Up!
 Gloria
CVS is telling it's employees to reveal their height, weight, body fat percent and other personal information, so they can provide their employees with healthcare. If their employees don't accept their healthcare, they have to pay a $600 fine.

These people are being very rude. They are intruding on their employees privacy. Who knows how far this could go? "Accept our gift or give us a $600 fine?" That's crazy! 1 Peter 4:15 "But let none of you suffer as a murderer or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters." The fact that these people in CVS are making their employees use their healthcare is that last part.

Like I said earlier, how far will this go? How hypocritical will people get? "Oh, we'll provide you healthcare! But if you don't take this gratifying offer, we'll make you pay us $600 a year." Why are they doing this? In what way will it get worse?

A Good Hook

by Christina

My name is Pip, but does that really matter? Life is miserable as it is, without a name like Pip. It's late, and I'll probably miss dinner if I stay here. But I don't want to go back. She'd just find something to blame me for, beat me when I said I didn't do it, and scold me with, "Don't act so ungrateful to those who raised you up by hand." By hand. Bah! My sister raised me with a hand that held a rod to beat down on my back when she could. But after she married Joe, the blacksmith, things have been a little better. Now I have someone who understands me, as we both receive the same treatment from my sister. It's cold, but I bet my mother, father, and brothers are all colder than I am, in the earth that surrounds their bones.

(Assignment: Rewrite the beginning of Great Expectations by Charles Dickens to give it a better "hook".)

The Beginning of The End... Of Slavery
By Gloria
Over Europe and America, people started realizing that maybe slavery was wrong. There was an organization that specifically spoke out against slavery, called the Abolitionists. But, some people 'needed' slaves, to keep their plantations and farms going strong. But there were too many people who realized slavery was wrong. In 1807, the British Parliament passed a law that stated no British ships were allowed to buy slaves from African slave posts, and sell them, basically outlawing slave trade. In 1808, the United States government passed the same law. But slavery was still legal until, in 1833, the British government made slavery illegal. But slaves wouldn't be free over in the United States for a little while longer.

People all over the world were starting to question "why?" and "how?"  How does the world work? Why do we keep slaves? Why do objects fall? How does a river move? Nowadays, in 2013, we usually ask "why?" and "how?", and even little kids want to know things like "how does the world spin?" (given to me by Hannah). We need to know. A question that I have: is this a good thing or a bad?
