This story is one of my favorites, it’s so interesting that I kept on reading past my page. It’s about a boy who has a family of tailors, but he (Arduino) instead of wanting to be a tailor he wanted to be a painter, so Arduinos father reluctantly took him to a studio telling Arduino that if the Maestro (the master) gave him any complaints Arduino would go home immediately and become a tailor. There were three more boys at the studio they were Marco, Piero, and Baldo (the Maestro’s real name was Cosimo di Forli) Arduino worked so hard on being good, at night he saw the maid go up to the attic where they were forbidden, and the Maestro says there is even a monster in the attic. But late one night when everybody was asleep except for Arduino his curiosity got the better of him so he went up to the attic. What he found almost made him scream, a man about in his twenties chained up against the wall, Arduino found that the name of the man was Donanto and he had been there for more than ten years, the two became very close friends. One day the Duke asked the Maestro to do a fresco for him, first the Maestro tried to paint what he was going to paint but he couldn’t he was to sick. He was panicking that it would not be done when Arduino asked if Donanto could do it the Maestro was angry that Arduino went up into the attic but then he agreed that Donanto could do it, but when they delivered it they couldn’t tell the duke that the painting was Donanto’s, and that the Maestro was sick. but when they got back Arduino was accused of telling the duke that he was sick and that the painting was Donanto’s but he hadn’t said a thing! Arduinos father came and took him home, but (yes there is a but) later to find it was a misunderstanding and later to find that Donanto was the new Maestro! so the next day the Duke came and took Arduino to help his Maestro with the fresco he was a apprentice again. I really love this book.
